“St Mary’s is an outstanding Catholic school.”
“The school is outstanding overall in providing and promoting Catholic Education. The school’s
Mission Statement ‘Learning and Loving, Caring and Sharing, through the Message of Christ’, is
clearly at the heart of all aspects of school life, and is well understood and cherished by the whole school community. The behaviour and attitudes of the pupils are outstanding, and pupils eagerly participate in all learning activities. Pupils say that they love their lessons in Religious Education and for many it is their favourite lesson. Standards are very high and should continue to rise given the ambitious culture within the whole school community.” Section 50 Dec. 2019

At St Mary’s, we are committed to the continuous development of our Catholic life, prayer and liturgy, and Religious Education. Our self-evaluation process is ongoing and involves the active participation of pupils, staff, governors, parents, parish representatives and diocesan colleagues.
Throughout the year, we gather evidence from a range of sources, including learning walks, lesson observations, prayer and liturgy monitoring, book looks, surveys, stakeholder consultations and pupil voice activities. Particular importance is placed on listening to the views and experiences of our children, who play an active role in shaping and evaluating the Catholic life of the school.
Governors monitor and evaluate Catholic life and mission through visits, meetings with pupil groups, discussions with staff and scrutiny of school improvement priorities. This collaborative approach ensures that our Catholic mission remains at the centre of all that we do and that areas for development are identified and acted upon effectively.
The outcomes of monitoring, evaluation and stakeholder feedback directly inform our school improvement planning, helping us to further strengthen the quality of Catholic education, prayer and liturgy, Religious Education and faith formation across the school community.
As a community of faith, we continually strive to deepen our relationship with Christ and ensure that the mission statement, “Learning and Loving, Caring and Sharing through the Message of Christ”, is lived out each day by pupils, staff, governors and families.
Our priority areas for development this year 2026-27 are:-
Priority 1.1– To continue to implement the new Prayer and Liturgy Directory (To Love You More Dearly) to enrich the spiritual life of the school and deepen pupils’ encounter with Christ.
Priority 1.2– To further develop RE assessment procedures to deepen pupils’ religious knowledge and understanding in line with the RED.
